Tips for Keeping Your Refrigerator Cold
A little regular maintenance helps your refrigerator cool better, use less energy and last longer. These simple tasks can prevent many of the refrigerator repair calls we see in Oklahoma City every week.
Clean the Condenser Coils
Dusty condenser coils make your refrigerator work harder to stay cold. Unplug the unit and vacuum or brush the coils — usually behind the bottom kick plate or on the back — every 6 to 12 months, and more often if you have pets.
Check the Door Gaskets
Torn or dirty door seals let cold air escape, so your compressor runs constantly and food spoils faster. Wipe the gaskets with warm, soapy water and close the door on a dollar bill — if it slides out easily, the seal may need to be replaced.
Change Your Water Filter
Refrigerators with an ice maker or water dispenser usually need a new water filter every 6 months. A clogged filter can cause slow water flow, small or hollow ice cubes, or an ice maker that stops working altogether.

Why is my refrigerator not cooling?
The most common causes are dirty condenser coils, a failed evaporator or condenser fan motor, a bad start relay, or a defrost problem that lets frost build up and block airflow. Why is my refrigerator leaking water?
Leaks usually come from a clogged defrost drain, a cracked water filter housing, or a loose or damaged water line to the ice maker or dispenser. Turn off the water supply to the fridge if you can, and give us a call.

In most cases, yes. Fans, thermostats, defrost parts, ice makers, water valves and door gaskets cost far less to repair than buying a new refrigerator. If a repair does not make sense for your unit, our technician will tell you honestly.
