Freezer Maintenance Tips You Can Do

Tips for Keeping Your Freezer Cold
A few simple habits help your freezer stay cold, use less energy and last longer — and can prevent many of the freezer repair calls we see across Oklahoma City.
Keep It at 0°F
Set your freezer to 0°F and check it with an inexpensive appliance thermometer. A freezer that runs warmer lets food spoil, and one that never shuts off may have a defrost or airflow problem.
Check the Door Seal
A torn or loose door gasket lets warm, humid air in, which causes frost buildup and makes the freezer run nonstop. Close the door on a dollar bill — if it slides out easily, the seal needs attention.
Don’t Block the Vents
Leave space around the vents inside your freezer so cold air can circulate. On chest freezers, defrost when ice gets thicker than about a quarter inch.

Freezer Repair FAQs
Why is my freezer not freezing?
Common causes include a failed evaporator fan, a defrost problem that lets frost block the airflow, dirty condenser coils, or a bad start relay or compressor. Call or text (405) 464-1191 — we can usually be there same-day or next-day.
Why is there frost or ice building up in my freezer?
Frost buildup usually comes from a worn door gasket, a door left ajar, or a failed defrost heater, thermostat or control board. Heavy frost on the back wall is a common sign of a defrost problem.
Is it worth repairing my freezer?
In most cases, yes. Fans, defrost parts, relays and gaskets cost far less than a new freezer, and we give you a complete estimate before any work starts so you can decide.
Do you charge for a service call?
CNS always offers a FREE service call with repair, and you get a complete estimate to approve before any work starts.
