A few simple habits help your dishwasher clean better, drain properly and last longer — and can prevent many of the dishwasher repair calls we see across Oklahoma City.
Clean the Filter
Many newer dishwashers have a filter in the bottom that should be cleaned every month or two. A clogged filter causes poor cleaning, odors and standing water.
Run Hot Water First
Run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before starting the dishwasher. Hot water helps detergent dissolve and cleans dishes better, especially in winter.
Scrape, Don’t Rinse
Scrape food into the trash instead of letting large pieces go into the dishwasher. Bones, seeds and labels can jam the drain pump and chop blade.

Why is my dishwasher not draining?
The most common causes are a clogged filter, a blocked drain hose or garbage disposal connection, or a failed drain pump. If you just installed a new disposal, the knockout plug may still be in place. Call or text (405) 464-1191 — we can usually be there same-day or next-day.
Why is my dishwasher leaking?
Leaks usually come from a worn door gasket, a cracked spray arm or tub, a loose hose clamp, or a water inlet valve that won’t shut off. Using regular dish soap instead of dishwasher detergent can also cause suds to leak out.
